Welcome to our "Wekiva Wonder". We have transformed our back yard into an oasis of themed gardens. The Orlando Sentinel awarded Yard of the Month to this "Wonder" in a full page spread in 2002. HGTV will feature our yard this summer on the new show “Look What I Did”.

Our house sits on 1.5 acres of scrub oak and pure sand. It is connected by natural corridors to Wekiva State Park and we get visits by bear, deer, and lots of little critters. We moved here in 1989 and spent the first few years creating a standard suburban front yard. Ten years ago the action moved to the back yard and the “weekend projects” started adding major architectural features that reflect our travels around the world.

The “Alhambra Garden” is courtyard with fountains modeled after various sites in Portugal and Spain. The “Waterfall Garden” is a rockscape leading to a Koi pond. A bridge crosses a bog area to reach the “Bromeliad Gazebo” which features a Turkish tile mural. A shade house is used to protect the Bromeliad collection. The “Grill Garden” utilizes the free roof tiles we scavenged.

These newspaper pictures hurt. It was the day after a freeze. I look pretty grumpy about it.
